Counselling
Counselling support gives you a safe environment to talk through concerns and problems, and learn tools and strategies to move forward. Generally there is an element of healing from the past, or working on something that’s not currently going well. Some of the main areas that clients seek my help with include:
Anxiety, stress and overwhelm
Excessive worrying
Burnout
Panic attacks
Relationship concerns
Anger
ADHD (where I mix counselling with coaching to get the best results)
Working with ACT, CBT, mindfulness, and person centred therapy, I help you to worry less and live more. If you’re concerned about your thoughts, feelings, or behaviour, but unsure whether it’s anxiety or stress, this blog post may help. Or if you’d like to get started, you can book online.
QPS SelfRefer Counselling
I’m part of the QPS SelfRefer Program, which is available to all current Queensland Police Service employees.
If you’re a current QPS employee, this program can help you get support and assistance through a quick, easy, and confidential self-referral process. You can book in direct with me and start working with tools and strategies to help you with things like:
Anxiety, stress and overwhelm
Excessive worrying
Burnout
Panic attacks
Relationship concerns
Anger
Making changes, habit change, adjusting to change
ADHD (where I mix counselling with coaching to get the best results)
You can get more info about the SelfRefer program here or, if you’re ready to get started you can book your appointment here.
Coaching
Coaching differs from counselling in being more future focused, and goal (or habit / change) focussed. I love providing coaching support to help when you want to make change but are feeling stuck, whether that’s work, health, relationship issues, or in other areas of your life.
I can help you get clear on where you’re stuck, and where you want to go. We will talk through what is happening, how you’re feeling, your motivation, and your goals. Then work on strategies to get you to where you want to be, and how to look after yourself during change.
If you’re feeling stuck or stressed at work, or want coaching to help you with career progression, I can help with decision making, and strategies to reduce stress. Plus coaching on the practical elements of job search, application, and interview processes, so you’re set up for success.
ADHD Counselling & Coaching
Using a mix of Counselling and Coaching we work on;
Emotional regulation
Organisation and routines
Relationships
Decision making
Change (and habit change)
Healing past hurts and negative self-talk
Helping ADHDers thrive!
Why is it a mix of counselling & coaching? Because for many ADHDers the goal is not solely about practical skills (like the classic ‘organisation’) but also about recognising and moving on from the impacts of often having excessive negative feedback, and building a great relationship with yourself.
Workshops, Training, Presenting
I love sharing skills, tools, and information to support individuals, teams and organisations in building resilience, and reducing stress and burnout.
Some recent / favourite topics and events include:
Mindfulness at work webinars
Workshops/training on self-care for helping professionals
Anger management small group workshops
Stress and potential burnout - recognising and responding
Tapping for Anxiety - webinars, and hands-on workshops
Managers mental health toolkit - skills to support your team
Anger Management - Counselling and Courses
If you feel life would be better with less anger in it, there are steps you can take. With anger management, we work together to help you:
Notice and identify your anger triggers
Tune into the thoughts that come up for you (so you can better manage them)
Recognise your physiological signs of anger (so you can ‘catch’ it earlier)
Identify the responses and behaviours that aren’t working for you (so you can change them)
I’ll support you throughout with tools and strategies to help you improve communication, build up self-awareness, and self-regulation.
Or, if you prefer, there’s a self paced course option.
“Louise is super approachable, caring, and easy to talk to. She helped me work through a sudden employment change and the logistics of a move to a new career. Louise's approach is practical and she was able to bring some really helpful insights to the table. I would highly recommend Cara Counselling to anyone going through a career change or other upheaval in their life.”

“Louise has been just fantastic. I have been able to open about some issues that I haven't been able to with previous counsellors. Her approach is one filled with warmth and compassion which helps put me at ease. Thanks Louise : ) ”
